Rebuilding the wall of orphan ministry, one family's "brick" at a time |
Let's Rebuild the Wall! |
There are 143 million orphans in the world. Try very hard to wrap your mind around that number. 143 MILLION. If you really try to digest that number, you may feel overwhelmed by the immense need. But try wrapping your mind around another number: if ONLY 7% of Christians care for one orphan, we'd essentially have no more orphans. Only 7%. Just as Nehemiah saw the wall of Jerusalem in ruins and called it a "disgrace," we see the wall of orphan ministry in disgraceful ruins. Nehemiah led the huge task of rebuilding that wall. This was an "impossible" task, and yet he accomplished it by leading individuals and families to simply work on the part of the wall that was in front of or near their own homes. God led us to Nehemiah as a sort of "blueprint" to follow in rebuilding the wall of orphan ministry. It's not about one person tackling an enormous task. It is about many individuals and families working on the part of the wall that is nearest their own homes and families. While we focus on the precious family God has given us...while we work to serve our spouses, children, parents, siblings, roommates...together with them we overflow that love into orphan ministry, many times right from our own living rooms. We welcome you to our website that is dedicated to encouraging and enabling Christians to find their "bricks" and work on a small but important part of the wall of orphan ministry. You'll want to first read our section titled, "The Blueprint" in order to have a solid plan and the secrets to working on the wall. When you have looked at the blueprint, you can then explore the many different ways of serving orphans in our section titled, "What's Your Brick?" Feel free to follow our blog. There you will find our imperfect but sincere family seeking to love and serve each other within the walls of our home and also overflow that love in tangible ways to work on our part of the wall of orphan ministry. God bless you and your family as you embark on what God calls "pure and lasting religion" as you care for orphans (see James 1:27). We pray that you work faithfully on your part of the wall, and together we will see the wall of orphan ministry rebuilt in God's timing and in His way. "They replied at once, 'Let's rebuild the wall!' So they began the good work." (Nehemiah 2:18b) |
